Interdisciplinary Student Workshop ClimExpo
Interdisciplinary Student Workshop ClimExpo
Water Cycle and Climate Change
We are pleased to invite you to a unique interdisciplinary student workshop, which will take place from Thursday, October 23 to Saturday, October 25, 2025.
During this intensive three-day event, under the guidance of experienced experts, you will create a conceptual design of an outdoor exhibition on the research site of the Faculty of Civil Engineering.
Competition Brief
The Institute of Landscape Water Management announces a student architectural competition on the theme Exhibition of the Water Cycle and Climate Change – Stage I.
The task for students is to design a permanent popularization exhibition, representing a comprehensive set of educational elements located within a closed site, which will be regularly open to the public during major events organized by the university.
The design should include new lighting, enabling visits also in the evening. All exhibition points will be accompanied by information panels presenting outputs of the ongoing project Interreg Austria – Czech Republic 2021–2027, ATCZ 00107 KlimAdapt-Thaya/Dyje, including detailed descriptions of the measures presented, their purpose, and their connection to climate change.
By creating a permanent exhibition, the project aims to popularize adaptation measures and transfer project results to the general public.
Adjacent to the site is the SPA storage building, owned by the Faculty of Civil Engineering (FAST VUT), which may, after agreement, be demolished and replaced with a new building or reconstructed. This facility is intended to serve as an educational gateway to the exhibition space. The upper part of the site should continue to serve active research activities.
As part of the design, it will be possible to modify the existing terrain morphology and vegetation. The proposal for the entire site (i.e., SPA building, permanent exhibition in the lower/left part of the site, and outdoor laboratory in the upper/right part – see Fig. 1) should employ blue-green infrastructure elements. Strong emphasis is placed on sustainability and cost-effectiveness of the materials used.

The workshop offers students of Brno University of Technology (BUT) the opportunity to join an ongoing project, which includes the reconstruction or new construction of the educational facility.
The winning design team, in addition to a financial reward, will have the chance to:
-
join the project team in preparing project documentation and subsequent realization,
-
take part in an excursion organized by Povodí Moravy (PMO).
Site Visit
A guided tour of the competition site will take place during the workshop. Afterward, participants will have unlimited access to the site as needed.
Competition Documents
The contracting authority provides participants with the following digital documents:
-
Appendix 1 – Technical description of exhibits
-
Appendix 2 – Digital base (dwg coordination site plan)
Workshop participants undertake to use the documents solely for deciding on participation and preparing their competition design, and not to share them with third parties.
