The methodical guide defines in particular the procedure for solving the design of protective measures to increase the retention capacity of the landscape, from the analysis of the current state to the design of the optimal spatial and functional layout of the land in the process of land development. The design and implementation of adaptation measures to increase the retention capacity of the landscape is a very effective means of optimizing runoff conditions in the basin. The design, enforcement and implementation of individual elements of protection and organization of the watershed in the form of adaptation (retention) measures, which are ultimately integrated into a unified system, generally ensure positive effects, which include: reduction of the adverse effects of concentrated surface runoff both on the surface of the source land in the watershed , and above all an increased degree of protection of the territory (especially urbanized areas) against the manifestations of floods from torrential rainfall, including the reduction of economic and environmental losses, which otherwise occur due to the failure to implement protective retention measures.
